Find Great Value at Hotels in New Brunswick

Living in eastern Canada, we often hear interesting tales of travel and adventure in the west of our own country. From the magnificent peaks of the Canadian Rockies through to the warm weather and wine in the Okanagan Valley, on to the beaches and wild surf of Vancouver Island. Anyone who has made the journey will tell you that the West does indeed have a great deal to offer, but have the tides started to turn? Now, perhaps more than ever before, western Canadians are becoming aware of the natural beauty and culture that can be enjoyed on a trip to eastern Canada, and we thought we would make that trip even more appealing by outlining the excellent value offered by hotels in New Brunswick when compared to their counterparts in the west. In an attempt to keep the standard of hotel as consistent as possible, we chose to check the lowest rate for a Saturday night stay (Sept 18 2010) in Best Western hotels both here in New Brunswick and across popular destinations in Alberta and BC. With their enviable location in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, Banff hotels have the reputation of being expensive and indeed did offer the highest rate of our selection at $189.99 per night. Just outside Banff National Park, Canmore hotels are usually cheaper than in Banff and in this case that proved to be true with a room costing $169.99 per night. Further west in Kelowna BC, the rate was lower than in the Rockies at $152.99, and in Victoria on Vancouver Island the rate was $171.99. For the same date in New Brunswick we found the rate of $142.49 in Fredericton, $116.99 in Saint John and as low as $109.65 in Moncton. As you can see, the hotel rates in New Brunswick do seem to be lower than in the west, over 40% lower in some cases, which can only add to the appeal of a trip to this stunning corner of the world. The Best Golf Courses in New Brunswick

While there are many golf courses in New Brunswick, chances are, if you are in New Brunswick on vacation, you’ll want to play on the best courses the province has to offer. According to Golf NB, there are four Signature Golf Courses in New Brunswick, namely Kingswood Golf in Fredericton, Royal Oaks Estates & Golf Club just outside of Moncton, the Fox Creek Golf Club in Dieppe, and the Fairmont Algonquin in Saint Andrews. All of these courses are located in the southern part of the province, and it is certainly feasible to visit them all on a New Brunswick golf vacation. Personally I think I would stay at a hotel in St Andrews by the Sea to play at the Algonquin and Kingswood, and then find accommodation in Moncton for Royal Oaks and Fox Creek.

New Brunswick Whale Watching Tours

Some of the best whale watching in the world takes place off the east coast of Canada, and indeed the coast of New Brunswick is home to the Minke, Finback and Humpback varieties, plus the rare North Atlantic Right Whale as well as sharks, seals, porpoises and a variety of coastal birdlife.
There are several companies operating whale watching excursions in New Brunswick, mostly in the Bay of Fundy area, and here are a few recommendations:

Whales-n-Sails Adventures are based in Grand Manan and offer two daily whale watching trips throughout the summer.
