Richibucto
Gateway to Coastal Splendour

0
Slip the tip of your kayak into some of the warmest waters north of Virginia. On your right... a herd of seals plays in the waves.  On your left. a colony of piping plovers scurries across the beach.  And behind you, the town of Richibucto awakens to the rhythm of nature.

Located at the southern edge of the Kouchibouguac National Park of Canada, Richibucto is your entryway to a world of coastal splendour and cultural wonder.

Let the friendly townsfolk of Richibucto introduce you to a history that began with Mi'kmaq First Nation and flourished with Spanish, Acadian, Celtic and English influences.  Today, the bilingual (French/English) shipbuilding community still retains the flavours of the past in its churches, cuisine and celebrations.

A mid-morning stroll along the Richibucto Wharf and Marina gets you in the mood for dining coastal style.  Pick up some fresh shellfish at the local seafood market or sit down to a lobster feast at the Habitant Motel and Restaurant or the Auberge O'Leary Inn. Add a bit of seaside sparkle to your visit from July 13-20, 2003, during the Richibucto Scallop Festival which features an illuminated boat parade and boat races.

For solitary pleasures, explore the nearby dunes, lagoons, bogs and sandy beaches by paddle or pedal. There are over 220 species of birds here so be sure to zoom in with binoculars and a camera! And before your magical journey ends, schedule some time to visit Hudson Oddities, just outside the town, shaped from "mermaids' tears" (sea-washed beach glass).

When night falls, the choice is yours.  Camp in Jardine Municipal Park or enjoy the comforts of a seaside inn.

Whether it's the treasures of the sea or the pleasures of nature, Richibucto is the natural starting point for all things splendour-full!
