Neguac
Taste the Acadian Flavour of our Beachside Village
From golden beaches to down-home hospitality, explore the heart of Neguac… a coastal village shaped by a fishing and tri-cultural heritage! Learn the secrets of Acadian breadmaking at the Bakery “Knead Some Bread”, complete with an outdoor oven and costumed cooks. Feast on traditional Acadian dishes such as “poutine râpée”, “galette à la morue” and “poutine à la mélasse”.
Spend your afternoon surrounded by water! Follow the causeway to l’Île-aux-foins, our very own island. While taking a stroll on our 0.87-km (0.54-mi.) boardwalk, stop and read our interpretative signs. Swim in a protected cove in some of the warmest salt water north of Virginia! Then birdwatch from the observation tower overlooking Miramichi Bay. Canoe or kayak the tranquil Tabusintac River, just 10 minutes outside of the village, or take a cruise past Portage Island and the Neguac Dunes.
Dine at well-known local restaurants! Then walk along the village wharf as colourful fishing boats glide by. Chat with a fisherman and hear tales of the sea and how we’ve become the ‘Capitale des Savoie’… our earliest settlers and the starting point for a family that now spans the continent!
