Facts & Tidbits

WHAT IS A DUNE?

Constant wind action, tides and ocean currents create sand dunes - and they're ever changing! Major storms reshape them and they shelter many species of marine and aquatic animals and plant life. Literally hundreds of shorebirds and migratory birds also call them home. Roots of the delicate marram grass found on the dunes actually stabilize the shifting sands.

Feel the adrenaline rush as you rappel toward the ocean on the challenging cliffs of Cape Enrage. Let your paddle gently cut the silent waters as you glide past the Eel River Sand Bar on the Chaleur Bay. Squish your toes in wet sand as you walk on the ocean floor at low tide, or take a stride past a historic lighthouse on Miscou Island.

At the Irving Eco-Centre, La Dune de Bouctouche the world of the nearby salt marshes will fill up your senses, where the gentle hum of insects is interrupted only by the occasional birdsong. It is the closest you will come to the fragility of nature in its purest form… preserved, untouched and waiting for you to experience on your own or with professional interpretation.

Nature will take you to a whole new world along our dunes and discovery beaches. Don't miss this captivating coastline experience!
